Of the three areas comprising the Corporation of Delta, North Delta has the largest population. Originally founded in 1848 as Annieville, the original settlement on the banks of the Fraser River and the locale for BC’s first commercial salmon cannery along the river way back in 1870, it was later renamed North Delta. An sub-area of North Delta retains the name Annieville.
The neighbourhood of Annieville is bordered by 96 Avenue, Scott Road (120th Street), 112th Street to River Road and south to 84th Avenue. Rich in history, there is still a good selection of heritage homes, many on large lots. Built in 1909, Trinity Lutheran Church is home to archives chronicling the history of Annieville. A housing boom occurred in the 1950s and fishermen built Annieville Park bringing buyers to the area who were attracted to the natural beauty. The 1970s brought another surge of new homes in the neighbourhood.
